Building it back together...

Heres a picture of the grab handle frame from the outside.

Now I cut and shape a little piece of wood to replace the rotted section of window frame. A splotch of Sikaflex and a couple of clamps hold it in place.

Now it is the turn of the side panels proper. They have already been cut to shape and I think I have a fairly good idea how they are going to fit in. I have three and a bit tubes of a "No-nails" type adhesive, it is important that you pick a solvent free variety as you dont want a reaction with the polystyrene.

What should have been an easy job became a bit of a pig to be honest. This side was the first one that I scraped clean. I hadn't let the old plywood dry out properly and I ended up gouging out a fair amount of polystyrene as I worked. This was bad, because it meant that the glue had a gap to go in to and didn't allow a total bond with the plywood. I had to take the panel back off and add more glue. I ended up using all three tubes of glue on this one panel! Not the best job I have done to be sure. On reflection, I probably should have smoothed the area over with polyfilla or something like that to make it all level. The other side was easier to strip as the plywood had a chance to dry out and being more solid, peeled of quite neatly.

It was a real effort to get this piece of plywood in place and I was really pleased once it was over. Here it is clamped in place.

Although it was a complete pain to do I am very happy to see it in place. But the day is coming to an end so there is nothing left to do but wrap the van up and go for my tea.

Tomorrow should see quite a lot of work done but I have been constantly wrong about how much I expect to get done on any given day so I will just take it as it comes from now on.
